Cupid and the lesson of love" clock

Description

Cookie porcelain clock, marble, bronze, gilding. Germany, late 19th century. Mark under the porcelain (under the base).

Dimensions: height 31.5 cm, length 14 cm, width 11.5 cm.

Everything is in perfect condition, the movement has been replaced by a modern electric one and works perfectly. The gilding has been redone in 24-carat gold.

The sculptural composition is based on one of the favorite subjects of European classical art - "The Education of Love". In this case, the composition is called "Leçon d'Amour", and the title "La leçon à l'amour" is written in French with an error (right - "La leçon d'amour"). This amusing detail shows that clocks and especially porcelain made by German porcelain makers were intended for export to France.
