Description
Biscuit porcelain, marble, bronze, and gilt clock. Germany, late 19th century. Mark under the porcelain (under the base).
Dimensions: height 31,5 cm, length 14 cm, width 11,5 cm.
Everything is in perfect condition; the movement has been replaced with a modern electric movement and works perfectly. The gilding has been redone with 24-karat gold.
The sculptural composition is based on one of the favorite subjects of classical European art – "The Education of Love." In this case, the composition is called "Lesson in Love," and the title "La leçon à l'amour" (The Lesson in Love) is written in French with an error (on the right – "La leçon d'amour"). This amusing detail shows that the clocks, and especially the porcelain pieces made by German porcelain manufacturers, were intended for export to France.
